The Faces in the Windows

When the class of 1879 comes back to its fiftieth anniversary this month, the members of that class will have the extremely rare privilege of looking at themselves as they were in the days of their graduation. In Hough's Room in the Baker Library will be found the pictures of these boys in the glass of the windows, just as they were 50 years ago when Dartmouth was a much smaller college than it is com now. Such preservation of features in the living colors of transparent glass is one of the most human ties which bring the older class into fellowship with the present graduating class. May this not be the beginning of some such general practice which will preserve on the college's record not only the name and biography of each graduate but indeed the very faces of the graduates themselves?

A Visit to Hanover

Here are some of the nicest compliments that Dartmouth ever received. A journalist comes to town and writes his impressions of us in Hanover with a very kindly pen. He finds everything picturesque, our stage coaches, our new library, Wilson Hall one of the finest in America, our observatory, our medical school. And he is entertained by our notable literary figure, A. S. Hardy, and doubtless spent many afternoons at tea with professors and their families. He met President Bartlett and all our professors, among them Henry E. Parker, James L. Colby, and John K. Lord. He was present at the post office where the college always gathers at 2 o'clock to get the Boston mail.
