General Charles K. Darling retired January 1 from the clerkship of the United States Circuit Court for the First Circuit, the courts of this grade having been abolished, and became on the same date clerk of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Judge Nathan Washburn of Middleboro, Mass., was severely burned December 20 in an explosion which destroyed his automobile and garage and damaged his residence. He will be obliged to give up his work on the bench for some time, but it is not thought that his injuries will be permanent.
