The annual report of the Dartmouth Outing Club for the year 1922-23 shows the past year to have been one of great growth and accomplishment for the Club, both in size and importance.
Among the noteworthy accomplishments were: two new cabins were added, the Mel Adams and Holt's Ledge; for the first time in its history the Outing Club conducted a European tour, which was featured by an ascent of the famous Mt. Matterhorn; the Ski Team had a successful year and again won the Harding trophy at Lake Placid; the fiscal year was one of financial gain, and the Moosilauke Summit camp was run for the first time with a net profit.
The Carnival was greater than ever before, and especial stress was given to its outdoor features and thus the Carnival was kept as an affair unique among American colleges rather than just a winter prom. The ski jump was increased 15 feet, making it 105 feet in all, and the landing hill was regraded. A new cabin was obtained for Bait and Bullet on Smart's Mountain, and a regatta was added to the activities of the Ledyard Canoe Club.
The greatest innovation of the year was the series of freshman feeds undertaken with the aid of the Dean of Freshmen. These feeds were a tremendous success, and the greater part of the class of 1926 was entertained. Through them the freshmen were given an opportunity to become acquainted with each other and the faculty, and interest in the Outing Club was fostered among the new men.
