One of the sons of Edward G. Leach of Franklin, N. H., has recently been elected to Congress from a Massachusetts district, and another son has recently been appointed judge of probate for Merrimack County, N. H.
Randolph McNutt has recently given $10,000 to the Nichols School in Buffalo to provide a new library. It is to be called "The Evelyn McNutt Library" in memory of his deceased wife.
Judge Jonathan Smith, after serving as judge of the Second District Court of Eastern Worcester (Mass.) for seventeen years, recently resigned. He was honored by an assembly of prominent members of the bar in Worcester County. Former Attorney-General Herbert Parker spoke for the Bar Association, and among many complimentary remarks he said, "Judge Smith in his service has given a revelation of the true ideals of judicial authority in a self-governing nation."
On February 3rd Alvin Burleigh, of Plymouth, N. H., was signally honored by the Olive Branch Lodge of Masons, of which he is the oldest living past master. A purse of gold was presented to him, and brief complimentary remarks were made by several judges and many prominent lawyers.
William S. Dana and wife sailed for Naples on Saturday, February 7th, with the hopes that the trip will improve their health. Both of them are still suffering somewhat from their accident last summer.
