WINTER SPORTS UNION TO HOLD MEET IN HANOVER
August, 1925

Mr. R. C. Syvertsen of the College faculty and A. W. Edson '25 were the Dartmouth representatives at the annual meeting of the Intercollegiate Winter Sports Union held in Montreal late in May. The Association voted to hold the championship meet in Hanover on February 19 and 20 of next year. It was also decided to drop the snowshoe dash from the list of events.

The snowshoe cross-country race was lengthened from three to five miles. Quarter and two-mile-speed skating will replace the former half-mile race. In the skiing events the slalom proficiency race, which was introduced at Carnival, will be rated on an equal basis with the regular turns.

A new scoring system, devised by Prof. C. A. Proctor, will be used in future meets. Four places will be given in each event and scored in the order: 5, 3, 2, 1. Only two men from a college can secure places, that is, each college can enter any number of competitors but only two can qualify in the scoring. The winner of the slalom race will be given 40 points and the seven competitors who- place next in order will be Scored between forty and zero, according to the ratio of their times.

It is probable that the central divisional meet between Dartmouth, Williams, and New Hampshire State will be held at Williams during the Dartmouth Carnival, unless the date of Carnival can be changed to February 19 and 20 when the Union championship meet will be held in Hanover. It is doubtful, however, that the date can be changed. It has been suggested that interfraternity ski meets be held during Carnival to take the place of the varsity meet which is to be held in Williamstown.
