Dartmouth 42—Brown 20
Allowing their opponents to win but one first, the Dartmouth swimming team dealt a crushing defeat to Brown February 29 in Spaulding Pool, by the decisive score of 42-20. Wells of the visitors managed to hold a slight lead over Isham in the breaststroke and this was the only five-point count for his team. Bryant led the field in both the 50 and 100-yard free style swims, winning both by com'fortable margins. The 440-yard race was a walk-a-away for Birnie and he had lapped Goff, his closest follower, when he passed under the tape. Leigh showed fine form in winning the fancy dive, out-pointing Edwards of the Providence team. The relay was hotly contested. Simmons, swimming first for the Green, gained a slight lead over his opponent but this was overcome by Arnold, swimming second for the Brunonians. Boughton fell behind by four feet and Captain Bryant, swimming last, was unable to pass Litchfield until near the finish of the race.
Dartmouth 28—Yale 34
The Yale swimmers triumphed over the Dartmouth natators by a score of 34-28 in New Haven March 3. The Green and Yale each took three firsts and tied for first in the 50-yard dash. Capt. Bryant of Dartmouth and How- land of Yale swam the entire SO yards neck and neck and finished simultaneously.
The 100-yard swim was also very close, Howse and Howland of Yale touching out just before Bryant reached the finish. It was the first time this year that Bryant has been beaten in this event. The other Dartmouth men to take firsts were Leigh in the dive, McCaw in the ISO-yard back-stroke, and Scheller, Steers, Simmons and Bryant in the relay. The relay time of 1 minute 8 1-10 seconds equalled the Dartmouth record for the event.
The Dartmouth water polo team was swamped by the experienced Yale poloists, 43-9. Gwin of Yale scored 29 points while Chait, Flannagan and Harrison'tallied the Dartmouth scores.
Dartmouth 29—Princeton 33
The Navy swimming team defeated Dartmouth in a close meet held at Annapolis March 10. The Navy victory was assured before the relay event was held but the Dartmouth quartet, defeated only once this season, was victorious and closed up the margin of difference so that the final score was 33-29. John Bryant, the Dartmouth sprinter, was high scorer of the meet, winning both the SO and 100-yard free style events. McCaw in the ISO-yard back- stroke, was the only other Dartmouth man to win a first place. In the water polo game which followed the meet the Dartmouth team was again completely overwhelmed and Princeton won by score of 49-5. Apparently our team still has some distance to go in perfecting the technique of this sport.
Dartmouth 37—Syracuse 25
In one of the closest meets of the present season, Dartmouth defeated March 17, the Syracuse natators by a 37 to 25 score. Dartmouth took all but one first place, although the result of the meet was in doubt until the relay.
The Indian water polo team took a hard fought match from the Syracuse poloists by the score of 33 to 25. The work of Flanagan and Harrison and the guarding of Brown gave Dartmouth a slight edge over their opponents.
Captain Bryant, swimming the 50-yard dash, broke the Dartmouth record for this event, and by scoring 12 points, brought his total individual score up to 77, which is well in front of any other man in the league. McCaw scored a spectacular win over Morris of Syracuse taking the 150-yard backstroke by a fraction of an inch.
