Building Operations
May 1929

Two new buildings are now in process of construction. These are the Sanborn English House, and Carpenter Fine Arts Hall. Carpenter is on the road to completion and very little remains to be done except to paint the interior finish and to lay the rubber flooring. The workmen should be out of the building within a month and the Art Department will then have plenty of time in which to move in before Commencement.

Sanborn English House, although giving every appearance from the outside of being as far along as Carpenter, is now little more than a shell. The partitioning off of rooms, plastering and finishing will be done during the summer and the building will not be ready for either occupancy or inspection until college reopens in the fall.

Foundations for two new dormitories were laid west of Gile Hall before the winter closed in and for the past week bricklayers and masons have been at work on the walls. These two dormitories will be finished and ready for occupancy next fall and will complete the dormitory development facing Tuck Drive and the Hitchcock Mall. With the addition of this extra dormitory space it is going to be possible to close up South Hall, which was pressed into service as a dormitory a few years ago but which has been most unsatisfactory from every standpoint.

The Delta Tau Delta Fraternity House, which was practically destroyed by fire during the Christmas recess, has been entirely rebuilt and will be furnished and open for use before the end of the term.
