DR. EDWIN B. FROST, of the class of 1886 is the director of the Yerkes Observatory of the University of Chicago, and stationed at Williams Bay, Wisconsin. He is one of the most noted astronomers in the United States, and has received many honorary degrees, among them one from Cambridge, England. He was graduated from Dartmouth at the age of 20, studied at Strassburg and took additional degrees, studied abroad, and held posts in Potsdam, Germany and the University of Chicago, in addition to several years of teaching at Dartmouth. He is the author of many articles, a member of many scientific societies here and abroad, and a few years ago lost his eyesight as a result of his years of work at the telescope. He still writes, edits, and carries on the work of the observatory. In addition he holds a professorship at the University of Chicago.

WILLIAM A. BARTLETT of the class of 1882 who has done so much for the Near East Relief received his degrees in theology from the Hartford Theological Seminary. He held pastorates in Chicago and Maine, and was appointed director of the work of the Near East Relief in Massachusetts in 1920. In 1927 he was appointed one of the three national representatives of the work. His home is 4 Oak Road, North Natick, Mass.

DR. DANIEL A. POLING who spoke the eulogy at the funeral of Secretary Eugene F. Clark has been closely associated with the Clark family for many years. He has been vice-president of the Christian Endeavor Society founded by Secretary Clark's father, the author of many books, an active worker in the war, and a notable advocate of prohibition.

Chakles J. Lyon of the department of Botany was graduated from Middlebury College. He did his advanced work at Harvard and taught first at Middlebury then at Simmons and later at Dartmouth. He was appointed an assistant professor in 1924.
