The Dartmouth has inaugurated a new column called Art and Artist which publishes every Wednesday information regarding the various artistic exhibits on display around the College. "Under the direction of the Arts, concerts
are now being given from Red Seal orthophonic records. A collection of the finest pieces is being gathered and frequent programs are offered to the public.
Editorializing on the age-old subject of over-emphasis in athletics The Dartmouth observed that the schedule for many teams involved numerous mid-week games the pressure of which crushes the man of merely average scholastic ability into the probation status. To quote: "No sport we feel should be permitted in its schedule to plan for more than one contest with an outside team during a given week. A week, moreover, with practice but without intercollegiate competition during the season would lessen materially difficulties involved in continuous participation.
We imagine that the Dartmouth alumnus is unaware of the important part intramural activities have come to play in undergraduate activities. Tournaments are now arranged for every sport imaginable, thus drawing more and more men into active college life and ever reducing that small group of men (particularly small at Dartmouth) majoring in cinema and fan-tan. A glance at the current weekly intramural calendar shows handball, swimming, bowling, billiards, basketball, track, hockey, handball, gym, and a winter sports derby.
