President Hopkins participated in the celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, October 12, with an address delivered at the luncheon for alumni and guests of Wesleyan on that occasion. President Hopkins extended the felicitations of the New England colleges to Wesleyan on its hundredth anniversary and spoke of its opportunities and responsibilities as a liberal arts college, and its past achievement and future promise in fulfilling these. Other speakers at the luncheon included Owen D. Young, who had received an LL.D. from Wesleyan on that day; George E. Vincent, former president of the Rockefeller Foundation; Willem de Sitter of the University of Leiden, who received an honorary degree from Wesleyan at the Centennial celebration; and Prime Minister Bennett of Canada, an- other recipient of an honorary degree.
