A bequest of $10,000 to Dartmouth College for the establishment of a scholarship in memory of her husband was published recently in the will of Mrs. Sally Markoe Merrill, who died October 11. Mrs. Merrill was the widow of Charles E. Merrill '69, who died last year.
The paragraph in Mrs. Merrill's will making this bequest to the College reads as follows:
"I give and bequeath to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, the sum of Ten Thousand ($10,000) Dollars to hold and invest the same and to pay the income thereof annually to such undergraduate of the College as its proper officers shall adjudge to be worthy thereof. I direct that this gift shall be called the 'Charles E. Merrill Scholarship' in honor and memory of my husband, Charles E. Merrill, of the Class of 1869 of Dartmouth College."
Mr. Merrill established the firm of Charles E. Merrill and Company, well-known publishers of text books and the magazine "Review of Reviews."
