Seattle Alumni Meet

The Dartmouth Alumni Association of the State of Washington held a buffet supper Friday evening, January 26, at the home of Sam Barnes '07. An anticipated attendance of about thirty turned out to be a crowd of forty-seven before the evening was over. This of course included wives and a few friends of the Dartmouth members. After the supper there were short talks by several of the members. Chauncey Baxter '10, the retiring president of the Association, told of his trip to Hanover for the Alumni Council meeting and gave us some very encouraging news in regard to Mr. Blaik, the new head coach. He called for nominations for the new president and Dr. Woodward '99 was unanimously elected. There were a great many delighted comments on the coming visit of Dean Laycock, and after the movies were shown, the meeting came to an end.

The usual group of regulars attended the meeting along with several who were attending their first Dartmouth meeting in this vicinity. Mr. Preston, professor at the University of Washington, who was in Hanover during the year 1928-29, attended and spoke of his great interest in Dartmouth. A Mr. Newell, brother of Walt Newell, class of '30, and son of a Dartmouth man, also was there. He, by the way, attended Clark School for several years though he is not a Dartmouth man, and is a former member of the University of New Hampshire ski team. He is making quite a name for himself this winter at Mount Rainier, the playground of all the Northwest ski enthusiasts, by introducing the newest methods of slalom racing, down-hill racing, gelandesprungs and the like.
