April 1934 William D. Gorton '24,

The Dartmouth Club of Cleveland under the strong hand of Norman Jeavons '18 has awakened to a new era of great activity. On February 6th Dean Laycock attending our annual banquet was cheered by the largest turnout in the history of the Cleveland organization. This tribute to the "new deal" was very gratifying. The new president, Mr. Jeavons, departed radically from banquet tradition by having the necessary stories dramatized rather than having them murdered by the toastmaster, R. M. Stecher '19. The idea worked like a charm as Stecher even forgot the story he had been telling for weeks in preparation for the banquet.

Following up this banquet of banquets, Prexy obtained "Red" Blaik, the new football coach at Hanover, on condition that he come to Cleveland for a luncheon meeting. This went over as expected and all attendance records for a luncheon were shattered. Blaik made a great impression on the Cleveland crowd. Even the press was very enthusiastic as this quotation therefrom indicates: "He is a handsome, softspoken, mahogany-haired gentleman who dresses like an illustration in Esquire and acts like a very persuasive diplomat." The Cleveland Club also knows, supplementing the above, that he is plenty strong—witness two broken squash racquets at one of the downtown exercise clubs. There is some compensation for being an alumnus and not out for the football team! There are still some records to be broken by the new administration and we will notify the ALUMNI MAGAZINE when they occur. Our luncheons are held every Saturday at the Statler Hotel. All Dartmouth men are cordially invited to attend.

Secretary.
