The Dean's in town!! His presence brings to mind many undergraduate experiences —experiences which at the time seemed to be matters of huge importance to us, and that were just that to Craven Laycock, who could see through our very lives. He liked us all. Some us may not have appreciated it at the time, but when 63 Dartmouth alumni from Northern California and Nevada gathered here in San Francisco last Friday night to greet "The Good Friend of All Dartmouth Men" we know that his principles have been especially appreciated as "we youngsters" have had to get out on our own. What principles? He summed them up in his talk with us: "Frankness, fairness, and friendliness, associated with plenty of firmness."

Only 3 men out of 63 attending the San Francisco dinner were graduated before the Dean's association with Dartmouth College: Charlie Ham '71, Walter V. Hayt '78, and Rev. Charlie Milliken '87. Thirty-six different classes were represented. What a host of old friends, and to think that we are only a small association compared with others visited in the United States.

The Program Committee did a fine job when they left us alone with the Dean of Deans. Of course, there had to be an election of officers, close contest for President won by Arthur H. Gray '11. There were the usual sweet words expressed for the old officers, etc., and high hopes for the New Deal. Future reports will tell the rest. However, just as a matter of advance information, the first Monday luncheon under this New Deal saw a record attendance of 23.
