655 THIRTY-NINES

With the first month of Hanover under their belts, the 655 freshmen are now pretty well oriented and are merging steadily into the main undergraduate body.

The yearlings showed unusual precocity this year, when they broke tradition by organizing and storming the Nugget a day ahead of the freshman-sophomore football rush. So unexpected was this surprise attack that guardians of the movie emporium were swept off their feet, while nearly 200 first-year men, with a sprinkling of unscrupulous upperclassmen, gained free admission to the show.

But alter tins auspicious start, the Thirty-Nines fell down deplorably by allowing the sophomores to beat them in the football rush the following day. This is only the second time in many years that the sophomores have won this event.

The traditional Delta Alpha ceremonies were held October 5th, at the Vermont game, having been postponed from the week before because of rain. Censorship by Palaeopitus toned down the usual risque character of this event considerably, but the freshmen seemed to enjoy themselves as much as ever, and the usual ingenuity was displayed.
