THE DARTMOUTH CLUB of Burlington, which has been reorganized during the past two years, held a meeting and clam bake at the palatial camp of William S. Appleyard '13, Friday, September 20, with Mr. Appleyard as host of the Club. There were twenty members present, the guest of honor being Honorable Fred A. Howland '87, ex-trustee of Dartmouth College.
After a sumptuous feast of steamed clams, lobsters and other sundry delicacies, Willis R. Putney '15, president of the Club, called a meeting to order. Short speeches were delivered by Sherman R. Moulton '98, Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court, and Doctor P- C. Ladd '05, followed by a few remarks by Mr. Howland.
The president of the Club notified the members of a sapper to be held sometime in November at a Burlington hotel, and plans for a general exodus to Hanover for the Cornell-Dartmouth football game were discussed. A meeting was held at noon at the Hotel Van Ness in Burlington on May 3°. previous to the Dartmouth-Vermont baseball game with "Rip" Heneage as honored guest, at which time about fifty or sixty were present including wives and sweethearts, and was the forerunner of the disastrous defeat of the Dartmouth baseball team by a supposedly weak Vermont Nine. Accordingly, it was suggested that Mr. Putney's dinner take place after the Yale-Dartmouth football game in order to allay any possible chance of the meeting increasing the potency of the Yale jinx. At this writing, Dartmouth has finally subdued Yale for the first time and amidst Burlington rejoicing the Committee now feel free to continue its social activities without hurting the chances of the Green Team.
The Dartmouth Club of Burlington has a membership of between thirty and forty alumni.
