Jay D. Runkle, divisional merchandise manager of B. Altman & Cos., in a report on the results of a questionnaire filled in by piece-goods merchandisers in stores throughout the country, brings out the fact that synthetic yarns goods may be promoted without affecting silk sales. Among the ways that yard goods sales may be developed, questionnaire answers indicate, are: Better contracts with dressmakers, better customer help, further development of sewing classes, closer co-operation with pattern and fabric resources, better balanced stocks, and omission of top-heavy promotional stocks.

Harold C. McAllister, who has served the New Hampshire and Granite State Fire Insurance Companies as special agent in Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts for the past twelve years, has been transferred to the home office at Manchester, N. H., where he will take charge of the underwriting for southern New England.
Much space was given on the front page of the Burlington, Vt., Free Press andTimes to Bill Appleyard on January 14. It seems that Bill, with other airways and railroad officials, telephoned to Amelia Earhart on the completion of her Honolulu-California flight and after the con- versation wired their congratulations. Amelia sent a long wire of thanks to Bill for the messages and again for the hospitality extended to her when she was in Burlington at the dedication of the municipal airport of that city.

Patricia Donovan '12 in his inimitable female impersonation was the star of the Amateur Vaudeville show in Commons. Clarence Meleney recited "The Red Rose" —hello Rosa, hello papa—and Dunning '11 and Dudensing '13 in "a clever black face sketch" were some on the long program. .... Miss Rodey announced that 50-word night letters over Western Union could be sent for the cost of ten in the daytime.
