THE DARTMOUTH Alumni Association of Washington, D. C. has grown rapidly during the past three years because of the trek to Washington of men from old and young classes who have been employed in the various emergency and regular establishments of the Federal government. In addition to those permanently stationed here, we have had the pleasure of meeting alumni traveling through on business, many of whom have been present at weekly luncheons. As a consequence, the Association enjoyed a good year last year, and staged several special functions, including the Dartmouth-Cornell football luncheon (an annual affair), a Dartmouth Night dinner, a concert of the Glee Club, a banquet with Dean Bill as the guest of honor, and an outdoor party at the farm home of Warren Bruner '10, and an excursion to the Virginia alumni dinner at Williamsburg.
For the past four years weekly luncheons have been held on Tuesdays at the Harrington Hotel, handy to most government departments. These luncheons are very informal and afford a chance to talk over what is happening on the campus, politics, or anything else. With a few exceptions, there is never any program at these meetings, just conversation, mostly about the college, reports on the success of our bowling team, which finished second among 14 teams last year, the reading of bulletins from Al Dickerson's facile pen, discussion of the last ALUMNI MAGAZINE, debates on the fraternity report, etc. Beginning with the summer of 1935, the luncheons were continued right through the summer, and the attendance held up well, as most of the men welcome the chance to saturate themselves in a thoroughly Dartmouth atmosphere once a week.
The Washington association is fortunate in having alumni going back into the eighties and as late as 1936. The older men are just as interested and active in the Association, and just as regular in attendance at all events, as the more recent graduates, and this fact reveals the real strength of this group.
A full program of events is being planned for the year with an added feature in monthly dinners to be held on the first Friday in every month, so that men who are not able to attend the Tuesday luncheons will have their chance to contact fellow alumni regularly and hear the news received from the College.
The Association urges all Dartmouth men visiting Washington to call the Secretary of the Association, and to join us at a luncheon or dinner, if possible.
