In reply to inquiries following the recent death of Dexter T. Clark '65 the Alumni Records office reveals that Edward Tuck '62 has been out of college the longest, while Zeeb Gilman '63 is the oldest living graduate in point of age. Newspapers had erroneously stated that Mr. Clark was Dartmouth's oldest graduate. He was 93.
Mr. Tuck, the greatest benefactor Dartmouth has ever had, is 94 years old. Mr. Gilman is 95. But Mr. Tuck graduated in the class of 1862 while Mr. Gilman left Hanover a year later. It is customary to name as the oldest graduate the man who is oldest in years and according to this formula Mr. Gilman is now rated as Dartmouth's oldest living graduate, with Mr. Tuck a close second for the distinction.
