The above will give you a rough idea of what will happen. Of course, lots of other things will happen, and you should make a point of being there to participate. Would it be asking too much for you to shake off your lethargy and drop me a line about yourself and your plans? If you are good at reading between the lines, you can add one HELUVA lot to the above schedule and BELIEVE me one HELUVA lot WILL be added. Reunion may seem a long time in the future, BUT as you read these notes it is only about 126 days away. If you fail to make plans NOW you probably will find difficulty later. Plan to be away from the office, save money for the trip, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW! !
CHARLIE BISHOP, Chairman Reunion Committee. * * *
With a short prayer, we special delivery these notes to the editors, two days late. Chairman Bishop of the reunion committee has already submitted news on that subject and we trust the two get together. La grippe explains the reason for my delay.
Speaking of marriages, lend your eyes to the following letter from the Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin.
Dear Sid,
It is about time I announced to you, andthrough you to the Dartmouth AlumniMagazine, my marriage, and the departureof one of the class's oldest bachelors. OnSeptember 15, in Paw Paw, Michigan, Itook on a new lease of life, marrying MissDorothy Anderson, a Michigan graduateand a very proficient advertiser for SearsRoebuck and Co. I can vouch for its beinga most excellent and desirable state, if youhave the right girl, and for a number ofwasted years previous to this fall.
Hope I can swing the 10th but can't tellat the present time. I will be in Hanoverin September anyway, when the AmericanPsychological Association meets there.
DICK HUSBAND.
FLASH-BROOKLYN, NEW YORK-Mr. Stanley Spartan Tumbridge announced the marriage of his daughter, Helen Alanson, to Charlie Singleton on Saturday, December 14, 1935. Congratulations, Charlie and Dick and to the former, we trust that domestic happiness will not take away too much time from carrying on the excellent work of the Alumni Fund.
BOSTON, MASS. Bill Hughes, regional chairman for New England, now with Schirmer, Atherton & Co., Stock Exchange Members, writes:
"Sorry I couldn't see you and the committee when I was down over Christmas, but having only a few hours there and twofamilies to visit, I was quite rushed."I just talked with Bud Holman and Iknow you will be as upset as I was to hearhis father passed away yesterday. He spentChristmas eve with Bud and Renee andthen went home. Early in the morning theDoctor pronounced it pneumonia. Bud isquite broken up as you can imagine."At the moment there is little news inview of the holidays. We expect to getstarted again on the 10th Reunion and thenwatch our smoke.
"BILL."
A book, HILL WIND, by Charles Abbe, was published on December 16 by the Association Press. You will recall that Charles, a member of our class during freshman year, was forced to leave Hanover because of his health and moved to California. Later he passed away but in his own words, "Dartmouth took its place with those rareperfect memories which really enrich themind." Any member of the class will enjoy this book. It is that enforced separation from Dartmouth which bring out some of the finest expressions of his loyalty.
Ray Sterling, within a stone's throw, has been turning out unbeatable hockey teams at the Columbia High School in South Orange. Recently at the Dartmouth Luncheon Club we overheard that his team has 150, more or less, victories without one defeat. Ray is also teaching history.
"From New York to California in Sixteen Days" is the title of the Ritchie Smith honeymoon. From an authoritative source we understand that Ritchie and Betty not only took first prize in all sport competition on board ship but also won first prize at the costume ball. Betty, who holds the golf title at the Essex County Country Club, recently won the putting contest for ladies and then proceeded to disenthrone the masculine king. Hi-Ho California and down to a little domestic cooking. We understand the meat balls and blah-blah ungratin were pretty swell for a newlywed and that Ritchie dries the dishes.
New York loses one of its worthies to Chicago as evidenced by the following:
Dear Brant,
Just a line to let you know I'm leavingGimbels Saturday to join MontgomeryWard in Chicago as one of their RetailSales Supervisors. My boss went out therein September and offered me a chance toogood to pass up ... . despite the difficulty of the move. I'll stay at the LakeShore Athletic Club for a month, thenbring the family out and move "for keeps."
I've been stalling on the reunion question til this job business was decided. If I'dstayed in New York, I'd have been all set togo. This way, I'm afraid it raises a question.
Expect to see a lot of Bob Stopford outthere. As you probably know, he has a bigsporting goods job with Wards.
BOB MAY.
Excerpt from "Squeaks from the GoldenGate": We have a Dartmouth representative working for the Western Pacific Railroad Company in the territory known as Plumas County, situated somewhere west of the Rocky Mountains up near where gold was discovered in California. His name is Walter R. Armstrong '26.
Once again as the holidays roll by Bob Cleary and yours truly received a generous gift of pecans from Les Waggener's father and mother in Texas. So once again their interest in Dartmouth and the class is expressed and I am sure that we all join in wishing them a most happy New Year.
At the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Somerville (Mass.) National Bank, C. G. McDavitt Jr. was elected executive vice president of the bank and also a member of the bank's board of directors. Mac has gone from one position to another through a series of promotions both in his former connection with the Winchester National Bank and more recently in Somer ville.
