Dartmouth's first interscholastic indoor track meet was run off in Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday, March 14, with 149 schoolboy stars from 17 preparatory and high schools competing. The experiment was a huge success, with team honors going to Nott Terrace High School of Schenectady, N. Y., after one world's record had been equalled and four world and national interscholastic marks had been equalled or bettered.
In equalling the world mark of 7.4 seconds for the 60-yard high hurdles Robin Hartmann of Brookline (Mass.) High School tied the record of his own coach, Monty Wells of Dartmouth fame. Hartmann took individual honors in the meet, winning the 60-yard low hurdles and finishing third in the high jump.
Bob Rodenkirchen of Dickinson (Mass.) High School equalled the world inter- scholastic mark in the 220-yard dash with a time of 22.4 seconds and equalled his own national record of 6.4 seconds in the 60-yard dash. "Red" Trail of Mont Pleas- ant High School, Schenectady, N. Y., shattered his own national mark in the mile with a time of 4 minutes 24.8 seconds. Bob Dixon of Bridgton Academy contributed the other record of the day when he covered the quarter-mile in 50 seconds flat to better his own national mark by six-tenths of a second.
The team scores gave Nott Terrace High 23 points, Bridgton 21, New Hampton 19, Brookline High 13, Mont Pleasant High 11, Dickinson High 10, Roxbury School 8, Lowell High 6, St. Johnsbury Academy 5, West Springfield High 2, Brunswick High 2, and Gloucester High 1.
In exhibition performances, Tony Geniawicz and Dick Brister set two indoor College records with a toss of 55 feet six inches for the 12-pound shot and a jump of 12 feet 9 inches in the pole vault, respectively.
