Lawrence C. Hull 3d '38 was elected Chief of the Undergraduate Fire Squad and James A. Feeley Jr. '39 was chosen Foreman at the organization meeting of the undergraduate fire-fighters on November 4. Present at the first meeting of the year were five members of last year's Squad and seven new members recently named by Albert I. Dickerson '30, executive assistant to the President, acting on behalf of President Hopkins.
The new members are William K. Thomas '38, Hollis, N. Y.; Edward K. White Jr. '38, Belmont, Mass.; Joseph H. Batchelder Jr. '39, Peoria, Ill.; James A. Feeley Jr. '39, Cambridge, Mass.; James M. Mathes Jr. '39, Greenwich, Conn.; John R. Klein '40, Wilmette, Ill.; and C. Whitney Miller '40, Seattle, Wash. Members from last year include Merrill N. Davis Jr. '38, Bradford, Pa.; Louis M. Frick '38, Bloomfield, N. J.; Fred Hollingworth '38, St. Louis, Mo.; Lawrence C. Hull 3d '38, Brooklyn, N. Y.; and Robert F. MacLeod '39, Glen Ellyn, Ill.
The Undergraduate Fire Squad, which has a tradition of more than a century behind it, assists in the control of crowds at fires, directs students in helping the Hanover Hose Company, supervises salvage work, and cooperates in all possible ways with the precinct fire company. Members of the Fire Squad are excused from classes immediately whenever the fire whistle blows.
