At their annual Commencement meeting the board of trustees voted an emeritus professorship to John H. Gerould, who retires as professor of biology Saw Hilton and his wife at their farm at North Tewksbury early in the summer. Both seemed very well. Mrs. Hilton spent a few days in Belfast (her old home town) late in August, visiting relatives and friends. . . . .Mrs. Mills was there also Reynolds sends greetings from the land of spaghetti and Mussolini. Was having a perfect motor trip—weather, roads, scenery, and all working together for good The Saffords spent the summer at their Woods Hole estate. They entertained at dinner the Secretary's party of four on their way to Nantucket. Vic spends most of his time with his flowers and garden, doing some writing meantime Pond '91, who has retired from the ministry, toted us around Nantucket in his Packard, and we reminisced about our old tennis contests etc. The Ponds spend their winters in Florida Mathewson went down to Hanover for a day at Commencement. .... Perry Boynton's son Carroll was married last June. Had a letter from Perry, which we will use later Moses delivered "The Oration" in connection with the sesquicentennial of the ratification of the Constitution June 21 Dartmouth conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws on Hilton at Commencement. Northwestern and Colby had both done this previously. Such a degree for a business man is quite rare. The Secretary wired Hilton at the time that it was an honor for the class as well as for him Dan Ruggles did not make his usual trip to Nantucket this summer. He is taking it a little easier, coming into the office a couple of days a week.
