In its financial report for the fiscal year which ended June 30, 1938, the Dartmouth College Athletic Council shows a surplus of $2,309.90. This figure is $32,578.13 smaller than the profit posted by the Council last year. Total income amounted to $226,029.70 and was $6,012.94 less than in 1936-37, while expenses totaled $223,719.80 or $16,565.19 more than the previous year. Major increase was in administrative costs, which totaled $30,606.71 and were $12,333.98 greater than the year before.
Football was again the only sport to show a surplus for the year. With income of $185,077.19 and expenses of $90,384.83, it posted a profit of $94,692.36. Its gross receipts were $3,908.58 less than in 1936-37 and its profit $6,075.60 less than in that year. Football expenses increased by $2,167.02.
Track and hockey had deficits appreciably lower than those in 1936-37, while basketball, swimming, gymnastics and soccer had larger deficits. Other sports, including all freshman sports, had losses corresponding to those of last year.
