SHERMAN R. MOULTON '98 was recently elevated to Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court by Governor George D. Aiken of Vermont. Chief Justice Moulton, whose home is in Burlington, is president of the Vermont Dartmouth Association.

Newest judge on the Vermont bench is Stephen S. Cushing 'O6 of St. Albans who was appointed to the bench by Governor Aiken from the office of chairman of the State Public Service Commission.

Loyal Dartmouth man, Fred A. Howland '87

of Montpelier was recently elected president of the reorganized Wetmore Morse Quarry Company, quarriers of light Barre granite. He recently retired as president of the National Life Insurance Company and is now chairman of the board.

Willsie E. Brisbin '29 of Burlington, who recently completed service as president of the Vermont Young Republicans, continues as member of the Burlington board of aldermen, being unopposed for reelection to that office. Willsie, Assistant Secretary of the Senate, is slated for Secretary if and when the encumbent resigns. The Burlington attorney, handed a hot potato three months ago when his Young Republicans invited Progressive Philip LaFollette, Governor of Wisconsin, to address the group at state convention, handled the matter so well that only praise was heard for the event which drew a large audience.

George R. McKee '23 of Montpelier has been appointed Montpelier grand juror.

John A. Gordon '19 of Barre, serving his fifth term as Mayor, is Democratic candidate for reelection as Barre City representative to the Vermont House of Rep- resentatives. They won't let him quit as Mayor.

Sterry Waterman '22 of St. Johnsbury, chairman of the Vermont Unemployment Compensation Commission—otherwise known as the "jobless chairman" threw a fishing party for Alf Landon of Kansas, erstwhile candidate for President, this summer. Governor Aiken of Vermont and a lot of other dignitaries were there. Waterman was delegate to the Republican national convention two years ago when Landon was nominated.
