COMPILATION OF NAMES, CLASSES, OCCUPATIONS IN LATEST EDITION

A TOTAL OF 257 alumni of the College are included in the latest (1938-39) edition of Who's Who in America. Both graduates and non-graduates are included in the summary. Holders of honorary degrees are not included. Grouped according to occupation the college teachers among Dartmouth alumni lead all others with 61 professors listed. Lawyers are next with 29, followed by: business executives 19; editors and publishers 16; doctors of medicine 15; clergymen 12; authors 12; judges 10; college presidents 9; school principals and head- masters 8; bankers 8; librarians 6; insurance executives 5; followed by other less frequently mentioned vocations.

The youngest Dartmouth class represented in Who's Who this year is 1926 with Thomas C. Colt the representative. He is the director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts at Richmond. Alexander Laing '25 is the next youngest Dartmouth man in the book. He is an author living in Hanover and is also assistant librarian of Baker Library. The oldest alumni included are the late Edward Tuck '62, and Charles H. Pettee '74, formerly dean of New Hampshire University.

Because of his interest in discovering the alumni listed in Who's Who, Basil O'Connor '12 with the help of his office staff completed the large task of checking some 35,000 biographies carried in the book to secure the list of Dartmouth men.

The complete list of names follows with class and occupation given for each man. Those who have died since publication of the most recent volume of Who's Who are starred. It should be noted that occupations are those given at the time of publication of the volume, which have in some cases changed.
