INCOMPLETE ENROLLMENT figures on the opening day of College, September 19, indicated that this year's student body would be practically as large as that of last year. Undergraduate enrollment of 2,334, compared to 2,345 for 1959-40' was maintained, however, through the admission of 700 freshmen, the sec- ond largest entering class in the his- tory of the College.

Total Dartmouth enrollment on September 19, including the associ- ated schools and all special and grad- uate students, was 2,417 or 14 less than last year. The undergraduate enrollment by classes was 520 seniors, 537 juniors, 577 sophomores, and 700 freshmen. The increase of 49 freshmen over the first-year enroll- ment last year largely offset a decided drop in the Class of 1942, which was 625 strong last year compared to the 537 returning this fall. Shrinkage in the Class of 1941, for a variety of reasons, was from 568 to 520; while that in the Class of 1943 was from 651 to 577.
