We have two events to write about, the like of which have not been reported to us before.

FIRST, a child of the Class is married. Si Stein is the father. It happened in his home at Muscatine, lowa, last December.

About ten years ago, Jim Davis zealously promoted "The Proud Poppers Club." For a few years everyone was hopeful, feeling certain he would come off with an honorary Vice Presidency, if not the Presidency itself. When Bill McMahon took permanent possession of the latter interest in the organization began to wane

We therefore propose a new organization of which Si Stein is the first member To join you have to have a married child. We haven't selected a name yet nor have bylaws been adopted. Your suggestions are desired.

SECOND, on Feb. nth, nearly 1000 friends of Bill Cunningham honored him on his 44th birthday with a dinner at the Copley-Plaza. They gave him a Buick Sports Coupe painted his favorite Dartmouth green and brought his mother up from Washington—a complete surpriseto have her with him on the occasion.

To the best of my knowledge, this dinner to Bill is the first of this type given to any member of the Class. Men and women from virtually every walk of life thronged the grand ballroom and foyer of the hotel to do him honor.

Among many distinguished guests were Governor Saltonstall of Massachusetts, Governor Barrows of Maine, former Governor Louis J. Brann of Maine, Stanley Woodward, Lou Little, Quentin Reynolds, Bill Bingham, Ben Ames Williams 'lO, and Jack Sharkey. The delegation attending from Dartmouth included Bill McCarter, Earl Blaik, Prof. Prescott Orde Skinner, Mrs. Mary "Ma" Smalley, Harry Hillman, Harry Ellinger, Jeff Tesreau, Ossie Cowles, and Whitey Fuller '37.

Our Class was well represented at the New York Annual Dartmouth Alumni Dinner at the Commodore, Feb. 15th. Dick Dudensing made arrangements for a private assembling room before the dinner and refreshments therein. All were highly satisfactory and permitted everyone to sit down to dinner on time. Those present were—Bresnahan, Batchelder, Jack Clark, Colwell, Dudensing, Featherston, Fiske, Garrison, Jackson, Little, Martin, Miridjanian, Mullen, O'Neill, Paisley, Parsons, Picken, Rand, Robinson, Sandoe and Stone.

For the first time since 1923, the Davises went to Winter Carnival. They found it all very new and different and colorful. They saw the Nortons, the McCrillises. Kitty Larmon, the McCarters, and thousands of beautiful young ladies.

From the Western Edge of the country, I received a letter recently written by John Ross, Portland, Oregon. John tells us his name is in the Portland telephone directory and that he'd like to be on the calling list of any class member who reaches his part of the country. John operates a plant in the town of Hillsboro, Oregon, engaged in the quick freezing of fruits and vegetables to be packed in cartons bearing the Birds Eye label and sold as a product of General Foods Corp. The plant employs about 1000 people at the oeak of the production season.

In connection with the New York Alumni Dinner, Dick Dudensing received a letter from Stan Fitts. Stan has moved t0 Worcester, Mass., where he is Brokerage Manager of the Worcester office of Nation Wide Service Bureau.

Fred Alden who has been minister of the Winslow Congregational Church, Taunton, Mass., has been called to the First Congregational Church of Natick, Mass. Fred has been at Taunton since 1930. He is married and has two children.

A leading contributor to the Books Section of the New York Sunday HeraldTribune is Fred T. Marsh, a member of our Class who roomed in Wheeler Hall Freshman year. In the issue of Feb. 25th, Fred reviewed The New World Order by H. G. Wells and a week later, The HappyLand by Eric Knight.

DARTMOUTH 1919 ALUMNI AND CLASS FUND

It is my impression that in regard to the Alumni Fund, members of the Class may be placed in three groups—

The First Group includes those who give generously and promptly. May their number increase.

The Second includes those who give regularly and generously but are not so strong on promptness. If you haven't signed up for next year, we most cordially invite you to do so immediately. It will help Spider get on with his work.

The Third Group, which gradually is getting smaller each year, includes those who postpone doing anything about the Fund until after College closes in June. They fully expect to give but don't get to it until they think it may be too late. Usually they end their annual consideration of the question by resolving that they will wait until next year and pitch in a nice substantial amount then.

If you happen to consider yourself in this third group, will you proceed to get yourself out of it by doing one of two things— (l) Send Spider a check today. (2) Send Spider a letter today telling him what you can give and when.

Correspondence relative to the Dartmouth 1919 Alumni and Class Fund should be addressed to E. E. Martin, Chairman, 180 Varick St., New York City.

Fund Contributors for 1939 Contributors: 191 (92% of graduates). Total gifts: $2,446 (100% of objective). EDWARD E. MARTIN, Class Agent.
