A refreshing glimpse of today's Hanover is afforded this month through the eyes of Dick Stoiber, who teaches Geology and sticks pretty close to the campus during the school year, except for vacation peerades to New York and Boston. Dick lives with five other young members of the faculty at 6 Rope Ferry Road—opposite Dick's House.

"You would know Hanover all right," he writes. "I suspect it's not changed much. There is a new Thayer School Building, a new dormitory being built and a lot of little changes. Perhaps you remember that the operator asked for your nickel after you got the number when you used the phone in Hanover. I remember because it was so convenient to make two calls for a dime—well, that's changed for several years now. And the undergraduate fashions. No more corduroys. And more suit coats than we ever saw. And skiing—that's

different. You don't start out from the back of the dorm any more. You get in a car and tear over to Woodstock or out to Oak Hill. But most things are the same."

Dick occasionally treks down in the direction of the gym to visit Ellie Noyes, who relays news of two other errant '33's: DekeCampbell is at the Royal Victoria Hospital until July, and Don S. Simpson is in Philadelphia with Sears until the last of the summer.

Dick gives no inkling of his own summer plans, but tells of a swell job last summer when he "worked down in Newfoundland with the Newfoundland Geological Survey and had a wonderful time in spite of the black flies. All summer the weather was cool and the outdoor work with a gang of fellows helps at least to keep a school teacher from having his nose in books all the time."

Ti Thibault, who works for the "Norton Co. in Massachusetts, is the author of A Simple Dichroscope in a recent issue of the AMERICAN MINERALOGIST. (Nice to hear they're making simple ones.) SteveButterfield, traffic engineer with the Connecticut State Highway Department, spoke on Safety Engineered into the Highway at the Highway Safety Conference held at Yale on March 27. Steve returned to the Department about a year ago, following a year's graduate fellowship at Yale in the field of highway traffic research.

Heading the month's social news is an item from Chicago, announcing the recent engagement of Marjorie Mercer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mercer to Class Agent John Sheldon, which is still another reason why he should have your support in this year's Alumni Fund drive. Chattanooga barrister Pat Williams was married to Jane Shelton of that city on April 13.

Taking them in chronological order, the last four reported births are: Joan Ann Kramer on March 16; Michael H. Cardozo sth on March 30; Constance Sterling Tomlinson on April 2, and Cynthia Ann Wollaeger on April 5. All doing well.

A letter from Rhoda Clark in New Boston, N. H., informs that young Alexander Shaw Clark, named for four of his progenitors, thrives in his father's absence. After some days in Geneva, John sailed March to from Genoa for Rio and an extended tour of South America in the interest of the International Labor Office.

Also from New Hampshire comes a welcome letter anent Ping Ferry from a nonDartmouth, veteran member of the CONCORD DAILY MONITOR staff. "Ping is a Monitor scribe, does well, and is keeping city hall on the prod with his covering of that civic center. Also he's chairman of a newly named municipal committee to study the possible need for a new city history. Ping, still battling for common rights for all, recently hailed Police Commission Chairman Jackman into court for a traffic violation. Result: $3 fine for Jackman, and his compliments to Ping for duty well done. In the meantime, Ping has himself paid three traffic violations assessments, but he's not down! For a change this native of Detroit and ex-denizen of the bigger units of population of our fair land is now domiciled in suburban Concord, with a garden and a real garage in his care."

Charlie McCoy is the author of American Federalism—Theory and Practice, which appeared in the January issue of the REVIEW OF POLITICS. He is kept very busy supplying the necessaries for two very robust sons, Billy and Jon, aged four and one, respectively. The Templins live in an "off the beaten path" location so far as other classmates are concerned, but saw Clark, Newfang, Byram,Ward and several others on a swing East last fall which took them to Baltimore, Washington, New York, Winchester (Mass.) and Hanover.

Dr. LesMeister is finishing his residency at New York's Post-Graduate Hospital, and is shortly taking his wife to West Virginiawhere he will continue his work in internal medicine Rod Hatcher just made a brief swing through Missouri towns and cities for the National City Bank Bob Harrison is working on the New Jersey edition of Cue magazine FredGage is now with the law firm of Schrenkheisen 8c Kettner in New Rochelle.

Milt Alpert recently came out No. 1 on a New York City civil service exam for Associate Assistant Corporation Counsel, and now fills on a permanent basis a job which he formerly held temporarily. His assignment is to assist Mayor La Guardia's legislative representative in Albany to draw up the City's legislation and see it through, and oppose legislation inimical to the City's interests. He recently helped in drafting several new housing laws

Ernie Lanoue, mediator and arbitrator on the New York State Mediation Board, has been up to all hours settling disputes —recently sat in on a thirteen-hour conference. A mediator's job, he says, is to make friends of both sides. Ernie recently enjoyed a well-deserved Miami vacation.

Joe Byram sends a swell round-up of Massachusetts news, including some word from counties seldom heard from. "BillShaw is teaching at Worcester Academy.

... .Carl Ward's an enthusiastic skier and is president of the Dartmouth Outing Club of Boston, which has presented a darn good series of entertainments including even a Winter Carnival Cal Geary has successfully recovered from a recent operation Jerry Harlow's coal and oil business has been favored by the steady cold weather we've had in New England this winter. It may only be hearsay but the story is that Jerry was so busy for a while in January that like the shoemaker's children that wanted for shoes, so too the Harlow coal pile got so low that only Mrs. Harlow's threat to pay the yards a visit and fill up the rumble seat with coal brought the desired result!

"Jim Brown in his third year at Tufts Dental looks forward to practicing in some small town, preferably in New Hampshire. He hasn't lost his laugh Len Elden is with the Gulf Oil Co., in Boston and follows closely the visits to the Hub of Dartmouth's various teams Nat Leonard is teaching at Lawrence Academy in Groton. ... .Joe Carleton is pursuing the road to higher knowledge and is studying law nights."

Characteristically, Joe (Byram) has little to say about himself, but we gather that occasional week-end ski trips to Moosilauke vary a winter routine of banking and bridge.
