THE DARTMOUTH OUTING CLUB of New York opened its new ski season with a meeting at the Dartmouth Club, 30 East 37th Street, on Monday evening. December 9. A large group of old and new members enjoyed the program which consisted of a business session for the election of officers and discussion of plans for the coming winter, closing with an hour and a half of movies of Dartmouth and skiing.
The officers who were chosen to lead the club for the year were: T. Bleeker Ripsom '35, President; Larry W. Lougee '2B, Treasurer, Richard A. Rocker '33, Secretary.
The DOCNY is one of the oldest ski clubs in New York City and under the progressive guidance of its founder Marvin Chandler '32 and his successor, Harry B. Gilmore Jr. '34, the club has advanced to the point where we now like to consider it the best ski club in town. Meetings are held at the Dartmouth Club monthly during the season and any Dartmouth men in New York are invited to come around and join our group for their week ends of good fun and good skiing. Club dues are $1.OO yearly and our active ski group specializes in knowing where good snow can be found each week and how to get there economically. Small groups get together every weekend and larger club trips are organized two or three times a season. Some of our skiers are good, others are not, but everyone has a good time.
Last winter the DOCNY won the New York City club championship for the first time and we hope to keep it this season.
On November 13 the club sponsored a highly successful benefit showing of ski movies for Otto Schniebs, Dartmouth's famous ex-ski coach who has been slowly recovering from a serious accident last February. The fact that nearly 600 skiers attended and that the net proceeds were nearly $400.00 is a fine tribute both to the man for whom it was given and to the spirit with which the club got behind this pre-season ski show.
Every Dartmouth man is welcome to membership in our organization, and through the pages of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE the DOCNY invites anyone interested to join our next meeting. Drop a post card today to the secretary, R. A. Rocker, 435 West 50th Street, New York City, and get on our mailing list if you are not now receiving the Club bulletin regularly.
