TIME FOR MY OCTOBER news-notes came and went before I realized that summer vacation was over. Part of my own short vacation, way back in June, was happily spent in Hanover at the annual meeting of Secretaries and Class Agents, where I shared a room with an old Nashua schoolmate, Stevie of '01, and met many old friends, including Bob Mac Donald '21 from Chicago, a loyal and valued member of our Baltimore club a few years back.
In the past few months many changes have been made in the roster of Dartmouth alumni in the Baltimore area. Several men, including such regulars as Jake Holland '39, Dick Kenney '40 and Robert Swinehart '33, have gone to serve Uncle Sam, while many more have come here to engage in defense work of one kind or another. Newcomers include: Jimmie Boekel '36, Harry Brown '12, Bernie Burgunder '41, Carl Burton '29, Clinton Clad '40, Winthrop Clarke '38, Theo. Danforth '31, Ed. Elsenhans '35, Arthur French '4O, Richard Glendinning '40, Robert Haslam '39, Paul Leach '32, Gordon Ley '36, Morton McGinley '4l, George McKean '29, Bruce Pelto '4l, Ed. Pierce '4l, Charles Power '4O, Ted Rideout '37, Wm. Rutherford '4O, John Weare '22.
New officers elected at our May meeting are Jake Shafer '37, president; Bob Ekin '37, first vice president; Chick Burke '23, vice president in charge of programs and entertainment. Charlie Keyes '38, reelected treasurer, having left town in the summer, was succeeded in September by Jim Miller '38. The post of secretary is still occupied by yours truly.
We had an unusually large turnout for our September meeting, with several recent arrivals present.
Our next gathering is to be an outing at L'Hirondelle Country Club in Ruxton on October 25, where, by help of radio, we hope to attend the Dartmouth-Yale game.
