HERE, AS EVERYWHERE ELSE, I presume, the war is causing an unusually rapid turnover in our ranks. In May we elected as officers for the coming year: Bob Ekin '37, President; Jim Lund '2O, Vice Presi- dent; Don Mason 'l3, 2nd Vice President and Entertainment Chairman; Jim Miller '3B, Treasurer; Hal Hastings 'OO, Secretary. During the summer Bob Ekin and Jim Mil- ler were both commissioned in the Navy, and now Jim Lund is President, and Ben Kenney, father of Dick Kenney '4O (now in the Naval Air Force), is Treasurer. Dick Colton '25, long an enthusiastic and valued member, has been transferred by his com- pany, Western Electric, to Chicago; Judd McCarthy '26 and George Parkhurst '3O are away on Government work; and so it goes, with a good many new men coming in, for a time at least. Our greatest loss was suffered in the untimely death of our last year's President, Jake Shafer '37, in Sep- tember. He was a victim of leukemia, which is no respecter of persons, striking down, as often as not, the young and vigor- ous, like Jake. Among the new men we are glad to welcome are Dick Graves '33; A 1 Roach, Tuck '4l; Don Tobin '22.
