AT THIS TIME when the health of whole peoples has become one of the problems of survival in total war, fresh light on the subject is worthwhile. When, in addition, well organized data on the relative effectiveness of health programs in terms of the taxpayer's dollar are presented, there is increased value. But a blue print on health protection which can be read and understood with ease by health officer, civilian defense director, nurse, field worker, student, or physician is a veritable godsend. Such is this new book on the control of communicable disease by Gaylord W. Anderson, A. 8., M. D., and Margaret G. Arnstein, R. N., M.A., M. P. H.

Professor Anderson, formerly Deputy Commissioner and Director of the Division of Communicable Diseases of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is head of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Minnesota, where Miss Arnstein, now on the staff of the New York State Department of Health, was formerly Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and Director of the course in Public Health Nursing.

Even one only casually interested in the subject will be attracted by this book's orderly pattern and impressed by its implications with regard to his health and that of his family, and every public health worker at whatever level of experience will find this book of inestimable practical utility.
