MORE NEWS FROM THE FRONT

Harry Baylies is at present stationed somewhere overseas as an Airplane Mechanic 2nd Class. ... Capt. Nathan Lippman, also overseas, may be reached via A. P. O. 865, c/o Postmaster, N. Y. C. . . . Hal Ritter, with the Army at Fort McClellan, has his mail forwarded from 269 Waltham St., W. Newton, Mass. ... and Lt. Bill Mumler does the same from Presbyterian Hospital, 1753 Congress St., Chicago. ... Dick Lintleman is with AntiTank Co., 325 th Inf., Camp Claiborne, La. ... Gould Griffith is somewhere with the Army. ... Eye Bash is in Co. P, 15th Sign. Serv. Regt., Fort Monmouth, N. J. ...

Last reports on Rudy Pacht were that he was leaving the Signal Corps Replacement Training Center at Camp Crowder, Mo., heading east and hoping to get up to Hanover while there. Our receipt of the news of Rudy's marriage came too late for the last issue; one of these days we'll tell you who the California beauty was, but at present we rest our oars with the statement that now that la pacht, our erstwhile favorite radiator ornament, has done it... . well, anything can happen now. ...

MUFTIS

Bill Gahagan is in the Bureau of Information of 0.E.M., with offices in the same San Francisco building as DaveSmith, who is with the Compliance Branch of WPB ... Dave writes that Dick Howell is with WPB in Washington, where he may be reached at 1347 Jefferson St., N. W.

... We don't recall from our meeting with Steve Dorsey awhile back in Washington, just what he does; but he has described his work as follows: "My current job is that of Principal Priority Specialist, Materials Division, in charge of priority policies and administration for the Iron and Steel, Aluminum and Magnesium, Nickel and Chrome-Manganese Branches." So now you know. ...

Tom Lane has taken a leave of absence from Young & Rubica to become Assistant Director of Press and Radio for the Treasury Department in Washington, which is one explanation of why he is now living at 306 East-West Highway, Chevy Chase, Md. ... Jerry Spingarn comes through with some welcome items:

"I am now working for the Federal Communications Commission, in the War Problems Division. On the side I write magazine articles (less and less under my own name), and manage a little hotel for wayfaring members of the Class of 35 at 3000 Connecticut Avenue, a nice old apartment building where my rooms are too big for me to completely furnish. If you know Washington in these crowded times you will understand that that is a source of great rejoicing, if not of a guilty conscience.

"Dick Lauterbach is now an associate editor of Life."

Some kind soul out in Paris, Illinois has chosen to remain anonymous while transmitting to us the following information on George Dole, now with the FBI.

"After graduating from Harvard Law in 1938 and working in the land office of the Pure Oil Company at Olney, Illinois, he joined the FBI in May, 1941, thence to Washington, to New Haven, to Philadelphia. He is at present resident agent in Wilkes-Barre.

"Two years ago he was married to Miss Dorothy Ann Thomas of Paris, Ill. Their address is 80 West River Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pa."

BACK TO NON-MUFTI

Lt. Al Clark, U. S. A., holds down at 141 N. Ridgeland Ave., Oak Park, Ill Lt. (j.g.) Ed Skillin, USNR, is the envy of a good many of us in his post at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, for if the commission and station mean what we understand them to mean he is being trained for air base administration work, which is where a good many members of the class hope to be if one may judge from the number who have applied for same. ... The grapevine tells us that Lowell Haas is also with the Navy in somewhat the same berth.

ODDS AND ENDS ...

Saw Friar Naramore in his usual fine fettle at the Secretaries Meetings in Hanover back in May. Ran into Bud Hinman on a street corner in Columbus awhile back, and he is anticipating being in the service shortly. Coming through the railroad station in Albany about six weeks ago we bumped into Ensign Bill Wilks, en route to Notre Dame Navy Training Station for undisclosed duties, and looking very smart in his uniform. Running out to Ashtabula (Ohio) recently we had a very pleasant stay with Claire and Tyler Carlisle in their new home on the shore of Lake Erie. Ty has been back with the family store, Carlisle-Allen, since last fall, and when we were with him he was quite actively engaged as Chairman of the local War Bond Drive, making radio broadcasts, planning parades (instead of baseball peerades), and otherwise furthering the cause. The accompanying pictures shows his family, omitting only the two dogs. Bill Mann, with Cannon Mills has moved to Los Angeles.

Bob Collins has moved to 26 Scott St., Chicago. Fred Hickox is with the Wilton National Bank in ditto, New Hampshire. Roy Shattuck is down in Springfield, Mass., at 155 Bay St. Ray Morgan has left Washington and is now announcing for Station WHN in NYC, living in the Tracey Apts., in Englewood, N. J. Dr. Bob Alter is at Duke Hospital in Durham, N. C. DickPotter is in Marion, Va. Frank Cornwell, 14 Willow Hill Rd., Clayton, Miss. BertHetfield returns each night to 318 W. 8 St., Plainfield, N. J., and George Colton is back in East Orange, this time at 42 Wayne Street. Bud Fraser, who was one of the first of us to get into the Army, is laid up in a hospital out in Phoenix, Arizona, where we are sure any mail addressed to 501 N. 18th St., will be most welcome. That is all. See you in October, and good luck.

P.S. Almost forgot to tell you that the EarlArthurs' son David was made one of us as of June twentieth, out in Indianapolis.

A '35 FAMILY MAN Left to right, Clair Carlisle, Cassella Carlisle, and Carlisle pere '35.
