It is with the deepest regret and personal sorrow that I have to chronicle the death on August 2 of one of our classmates and my friend, Louis J. Fitzpatrick. Louis was always a quiet fellow but of sterling quality, when one knew him as I did.

His first few months in Hanover were very tough indeed, and if he had not been of Scotch-Irish ancestry he couldn't have stood it. He roomed on the lower floor of Sanborn Hall, the first room on the left, a beautiful large room papered with the old historic papers now preserved on the walls of a room in the English section of the library. Unfortunately, it was central, too central,.and the toughest sophomores, led by a tall fellow named Hart, seemed to have organized their fake society "Rho Kappa Tau" (I won't translate it) in his room, and to meet there night after night, until they finally had a banquet to which "Fitz" had to contribute handsomely. "Fitz" had no privacy, no chance to study, and was really hazed. I didn't dare to visit him myself, except daytimes. Then, again, poor "Fitz" and some friends chanced to go swimming across the river, too near the road and without clothes, and were jailed by the constable at Norwich. I wonder how many remember our mass march on Norwich to protest this arrest?

"Fitz" was bom in Canada and shortly after graduation moved to Haileybury, Ontario, where he was in the supply business for the Cobalt Mines until about eight years ago. Being in rather poor health, he then moved to Montreal where he lived until he died.

"Fitz," before going to Canada, married a fine Portland girl, Ethel Pinkham, who survives him. There are two fine sons, James and Louis, both graduates of McGill. James, twenty-four years old, is in the Royal Canadian Volunteer Naval Reserves, and Louis is a second lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Engineers.
