M. E. Hennessy, in his column "Roundabout," in the Boston Globe, issue of June 13, has the following interesting statements regarding Judge James C. Donnelly:

"Donnelly, who had played four years on Dartmouth football teams, was on his way to a game in New Haven. A man boarded the train at Springfield, took a seat in the smoking room of the Pullman, and joined in the conversation regarding the rival teams. Donnelly had to ask him his name when the train reach New Haven. It was Joseph B. Ely. The next time they met was when Ely, as governor, administered the oath of office to him at the State House in Boston. At the start of his legal career, following his graduation from the Harvard Law School, Judge Donnelly was associated with Judge Webster Thayer of Worcester."
