Werner Janssen '21, world famous conductor, has put away his baton in favor of less aesthetic tools. Werner, who is known as the first native New Yorker ever to conduct the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, is working on the swing shift at Douglas Aircraft Co. in California. And there he intends to stay as long as they'll have him. Ousted from Germany nine years ago because he refused to follow Hitler's order to eliminate Mendelssohn's Third Symphony from his programs, the musician-composer declares that he will "take a great deal of pleasure in thinking that I'll have a small part in building the bombers which are helping make things miserable for Adolph." At Douglas he is attached to the materiel purchasing department. His son, Werner, Jr., has just completed his basic flying training at Fort McLellan, Alabama.
