THE BUFFALO ALUMNI met in commemoration of Dartmouth Night at an informal dinner at the Saturn Club on Friday, November 5th. Despite the absence of many of our men in the Armed Forces and others so engaged in our busy war industries that they have less time for Club affairs, there was an excellent turnout and the gathering was most successful. Hugh Johnson '30, Club President, presided and the entertainment included a roving minstrel and a magician. Unfortunately neither Hugh nor the magician were able to produce our principal speaker of the evening, a well-known sports authority. However, some films recording early scenes of the college rounded out the festivities and everyone voted it a most enjoyable occasion.
Among those present were Herb Darling '26, Dick Burlingame '26, Carl Wicker 'l4, A 1 Cooley '29, Charlie Abbott '26, Tower Snow '3l, Ted Fleming '34, Frank Tindle '2B, Ed Felt 'lB, Ott Grauer '24, Jim Gould 'l4, Paul Ford '3o', Herm Oliver '22, and (Ash 'is, Burt 'l7, and Chet 'l9) Gale. Also on deck were Lorin Goulding '2l, Clyde Locke 'll, Ed Marlett '4l, Jim Purdy '3l, Warren Bruner 'l2, Harold Day 'lB, Bennett Kent '26 and Bill MacKay '27.
At this time we wish to record our thanks to the alumni who presented the "Dartmouth Awards" to the local high school graduates at the close of the last school year. This gold charm, designed by Harold Plumer 'O2, is given annually by our Club to a graduate of each of the Buffalo High Schools who has been selected by the faculty and his fellow students for qualities of character, achievement and leadership. Those who made the presentations at the June commencement exercises included Horace Taylor '23, Hugh Johnson '3O, Dick Burlingame '26, Hank Smith '33, and Darrell Granger '2B. Our thanks again for carrying on our best local traditions in honor of the College.
Secretary.
