Phi Beta Kappa Associates
February 1943

As a result of recent elections, the membership of the Phi Beta Kappa Associates now includes two Dartmouth men, Nelson A. Rockefeller '3O and Thurlow M. Gordon 'O6. This organization, with an active membership limited to 800, was founded in 1940 for the purpose of discovering and educating exceptionally talented young men and women with a view to their becoming leaders in national and world affairs. The Associates are setting up four commissions to study the status and needs of leadership in the political, business, educational and religious areas of American life and have established a National Lectureship designed to stimulate local interest in this program. These and other activities are carried out under the auspices of the United Chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, for which the Associates are providing a living endowment yielding $200,000 annually. Mr. Rockefeller is Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, while Mr. Gordon is a member of the firm of Wright, Gordon, Zachry, Parlin & Cahill, of New York City.
