A letter from Captain Herbert L. Kelley, Med. Corps USN, First Naval District, sole representative of our class in Uncle Sam's fighting forces, was more than gladly received at a recent date. Joining the Medical Corps in 1907, Captain Kelley has nearly rounded out his career as Medical Officer, being subject to retirement for reason of age in another year.

"Kel" says, "I am still District Medical Officer of the First Naval District—which doesn't mean much except that I am the oldest Medical Officer (Naval) in this area and am supposed to be an authority on all matters of medical material, plans for dispensaries, procurement of equipment, and have charge of assignment of enlisted hospital personnel for the district.

"As things look now I will probably be in this section until my retirement for age (limit 64 years) next year. Then, if the war is over, I hope to go to the Golden West. If still at war, I expect to continue on duty even if retired.

"Frances and I live in Winchester not far from Ned Kenerson and Squid Lampee 'O4. We do not like New England winters any better for having shivered through this one. My children: Herb Jr. is a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve, an instructor at an air station in Texas; Olin enlisted and is an aviation machinist's mate; Ruth (Pinkie) married a lieutenant in aviation, is in Texas and has a daughter 2 years old. So they are all in aviation, and so far each is intact. We all are anxious for this war to come to an end. Too bad it ever had to happen, but we are buying war bonds and backing the U. S. to win."
