A recent letter from Clayt Erwin of Lud- low, Vt., tells something of war-time life in a state where the mercury in the thermometer drops to 50 degrees below zero at times, just the point Secretary Ickes knew it would reach—not in Washington, however. Clayt says, "We have run our wood fire at home this winter and have enjoyed the aroma of the wood and the crackle of the fire. An oil-burning range has been our only other source of heat, but we have been very comfortable."
Speaking of the cutting of class reunions: "War sure is all that Sherman said of it when it cancels an '03 reunion." And again to quote: "Preflight aeronautics and military training in high schools creates a new school atmosphere in Vermont schools.
