Two MORE LIBERTY SHIPS, now under construction, have been named in honor of Dartmouth men, bringing the total of Dartmouth Liberty Ships to 11. The new ships are the Rufus Choate, named after the famed Massachusetts lawyer and statesman of the class of 1819, who served as U. S. senator from Massachusetts for 45 years; and the George L. Farley, named for a member of the class of 1898, a man well known for his work as a 4-H Club leader.
The Richard Hovey, Liberty Ship named for Dartmouth's poet laureate, was reported sunk in the Arabian Sea on July 5. Four crew members died in the sinking, and four (including the ship's master) were captured. The Richard Hovey was launched at South Portland, Me., on March 31, 1943.
