In the presence of family and close College friends the Distinguished Service Cross was posthumously awarded to Lieutenant James G. Fowler '42 last month. A regimental review in the New York City Armory of the 9th Regiment, New York Guard, formed the back- ground of the ceremony.
Dartmouth's official representative was Judd S. Mulally '42 of St. Paul, Lieutenant Fowler's roommate for four years in Hanover. The Sphinx Society was represented by Lt. Arthur J. O'Mara '42 and the Zeta Psi fraternity by Scott Matthews '42. Each of the units with which Lieutenant Fowler served were represented by guidons and in this "front and center" part of the ceremony a Dartmouth pennant was carried by the College representative.
Lt. Col. Henry G. Fowler '17 and Mrs. Fowler, James's parents, were honored guests at the memorial review. Lieutenant Fowler entered the Army May 25, 1942, and served overseas with the Ist Ranger Battalion. He was killed in action at Cisterna, Italy, January 30, 1944.
