Like the seven years of plenty and seven years of famine, the news this month is decidedly nil contrasted to a lot of good stuff in the January issue from 'round the country. My reporters perhaps haven't recovered from New Year's; or perhaps it just so happens.
The big question mark of the moment seems to be the matter of a Class Reunion in Hanover—with everything up in the air, and at this writing large chunks of publicity in the press eliminating conventions and suchlike for 1945 per edict of the ODT. Not that our class Reunions are like the ordinary convention; but for transportation purposes it would probably be so construed. We know not the answer at the present.
It's a real pleasure to report that Thornt Pray—lately a lieutenant commander in the Navy,—is now wearing three full stripes—the rank of a commander; and to him all kinds of congratulations. Let's make him an admiral soon.
The Dartmouth-Yale basketball game in Boston found two old faithfuls present—Walt Meader and Eben Clough.
By this time you have received in the mail that very fine letter from Charlie Griffith regarding additions to the Class Me- morial Fund established at our 25 th Reunion. Regardless of whether we have a reunion or not this year, this is a reunion year—hence Charlie's letter for the Fund which can only be solicited in such year. Written in Charlie's typical style, it is a most appealing solicitation and we can urgently suggest that you send him a contribution this year. Charlie headed the original committee, and it is a pleasure to see that he is again undertaking this work—he deserves your full support.
A clipping from the College tells me that Walt Wanger, our top-flight movie producer, has for the sixth time been elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This looks from here like something of a record.
From New York I did glean the fact that Thornt Pray, Bill Huntress and Jack Healy were the only '15ers at the Dartmouth Club New Year's party; likewise that Jack Healy, Charlie Griffith, Red Folan and Red's son had dinner together Christmas Eve.
No changes of address were noted for this month, and thus closes a lean month on news of doings here and there, but never let it be said we skipped a month!
