AS A CONSEQUENCE of the delay in the start of the Navy's expanded ROTC program, the Navy V-12 Unit will continue at Dartmouth through the coming July term, it was announced last month. The starting date for the new NROTC plan had been announced as July 1. Meanwhile no announcement has been made as to the location of the Navy's additional ROTC units. In the light of new requirements, applications recently had to be filed again, and Dartmouth was among the colleges renewing application.
While formal enrollment in NROTC will be postponed for eligible V-12 trainees, courses in Naval Science and Tactics will be introduced in July as part of the V-12 program and will be taught by Naval officers. These three courses, for which NROTC credit will later be given, are in Seamanship, Communication, and Navigation.
Dean Neidlinger has estimated that of the present V-12 enrollment at Dartmouth, 456 men would be eligible for NROTC next term, while 274 would continue in V-12 and 96 would graduate. The great majority of the 456 eligible trainees have five terms of college remaining.
