Joe Chase, who retired from the vice-presidency of the Virginia Electric & Power Cos. last March, was elected Mayor of Roanoke Rapids, N. C., for the second time on May 6. Joe went to Roanoke Rapids after graduation in 1906 and has lived there ever since. His first job was with the Halifax Paper Cos. After that he tackled the bridge across the river, the power plant and later 1400 feet of dams in the Roanoke river.
As mayor of the city, Joe was instrumental in building a hospital for the community, in improving the roads, in stamping out malaria, and in improving the public school system.
Nat Leverone, as president of the National Committee for Christian Leadership, sailed for Europe on August 1, for a series of meetings to promote Christianity as the solution to local and international problems. Meetings were to be held in Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and London.
Harold Rugg has been promoted by the College to the rank of a full professor. Harold was also elected president of the Vermont Botanical Club at its meeting in July.
Anyone interested in having their head shrunk should get in touch with Bob Richardson. Bob has recently donated to the College Museum a Jivaro head, which the assistant curator says is one of the best he has ever seen. Along with the head, Bob enclosed minute directions of the method of shrinking these heads.
On June 19, Howard Chivers was married at Hanover to Jane Gile, daughter o£ Dr. andMrs. John Gile.
Dan Hatch, president of the Canadian Export Association, is Chairman of the National Committee which is sponsoring Canada's first World Trade Week to be observed across the nation in 1948 from May 30 to June 5.
Charlie Luck reports that on his recent trip "out west" he had the pleasure of a good visit with Leigh Martin in Portland and with GusAyers in San Francisco.
Mr. and Mrs. Earle St. Clair were summer visitors at the Hanover Inn.
