Not having heard from Stu May lately I presume that the class dues campaign is moving along on a steady keel. As you know, the deadline was December 1, and if there are by any chance some of you who have not yet sent in your $4, I'm sure Stu would appreciate your taking care of this matter as soon as possible.
Some big news broke in the papers December 15 applicable to Chuck Bolte. Dr. Frank Aydelotte, American secretary to the Rhodes trustees, and director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, announced that Chuck was one of 48 men named to receive a Rhodes scholarship.
The 48 men selected were chosen from 871 applicants, representing 233 colleges and universities. The successful applicants will enter Oxford University in October for a period of two years with the option of a third.
The awards were the first since 1938-39, when they were suspended for the duration of the war. Because of war time interruption, the number of awards was increased from the customary thirty-two to forty-eight, and for the benefit of men who were engaged in war effort the eligibility rules were extensively liberalized. By this it is meant that awards are ordinarily restricted to men at least nineteen years old, and not older than twenty-five, unmarried and with at least two years of college work. For war service candidates, however, the marriage restriction was set aside and the age limit spread from a maximum of twentyfive to thirty-one.

Received a nice note recently from Chuck D'Olive—and to my dismay a few days later found that Lew had scooped me in DFTDB on "The Olives" activities. Chuck always claimed that there was only one place to live California, and I can see he is sticking by his guns what with his present address of Alhambra, Calif. Chuck's wife, as you all may or may not know, is Larry Thompson's sister, Barbara.
That about winds things up for this month, as we have used the last scrap of news at hand. I hope the mail bag will be fatter from here on out. Trust I'll be hearing from all of you soon. I have nightmares thinking this column may end up all white space some month.
