The following tribute to John A. Norton 'OB appeared in one of the Minneapolis papers following his death on January 22 of a heart attack. At the time of his death, Mr. Norton was principal of Munroe High School, St. Paul, Minn., and had been associated with the public school system there as teacher, coach and administrator for 32 years.

"Young men of high school age lost one of their greatest pals when 'Prof.' John Norton died suddenly in St; Paul Wednesday. So did all athletics, especially the prep and collegiate ranks.

"From the time he was graduated from Dartmouth, 'Prof.' was engaged in school work in the role of coach, teacher, confidant and principal. In those various capacities, he always was in close touch with youth. He always was their friend, especially when they were in difficulties.

"Only those who benefited by his many kind deeds will appreciate the contributions that Norton made to mankind over the years. 'Prof.' worked quietly but effectively back of the scenes to do a good turn here and there.

"Amateur sports were his life for more than four decades. He wasn't one of those noisy soap box orators who was out in front at all times. When he saw that there was a job to do, he did it without any fanfare or any hopes of praise.

"This was typical of Norton's whole life. He always was the first to volunteer his services in any campaign that would help the community.

"Men like 'Prof.' should live forever. He helped make this world a better place in which to live."
