The death of Will Earle reduces our ranks to 13, the lucky number; that is, the next member of the class must be not less than 90 years old when he goes the way of all flesh. A most interesting letter from his widow, Louise, states that they enjoyed nine years of almost perfect happiness, one long honeymoon. "I was," she writes, "a friend and next door neighbor of Will's in Miami, an intimate of his wife and a widow of several years. Two years after her death we were married in my house. My daughter and her husband, a fine young attorney—"all lawyers are fine"— loved Will. I am of French Huguenot ancestry, banished from France under Louis 16th. My ancestors settled around Boston, in the early 17th century. Brackette was the paternal ancestor. 3 branches spread out, one coming to N. C. that is my heritage. I was born in the state of Tenn. of the Deep South, with grandparents who were rich in Southern tradition, at one time large slave owners. Will had a most remarkable genealogy that went back to the days of the Mayflower. His family contributed much to Mass. and N. Y. during their early history. So you see Will and I had much in common to discuss as to ancestry and how we loved to discuss it!" It is to be regretted that they could not have been at the 50th reunion of '90. Her present address is 332 N. E. 34th St., Miami, Fla. She writes that Nutt called on them, the only one of the class she has seen. We can assure her that if and when any of the survivors of '90 are in Miami, she will hear from us. WalterRowe and myself are the only survivors of '90 now living in Boston proper, he at 47 Hanover St. and I at 3 Dartmouth Place. Every week and sometimes several times a week I call on him, just a step from Scollay Sq. On the top floor of 47 Hanover St. there is a band room, where there is a piano and Walter can make that instrument just talk. There he regales me with Dartmouth tunes and Spanish music, such as"La Paloma" and "Cielito." He is fine and I think has gotten more satisfaction out of seeing his grandson a member of the Sophomore class in Dartmouth, than anything that could have happened. I have met that grandson of his and he is a boy to keep in mind. He is sure to go places.
