September has been a busy month for the Long Island Association. All the officers and executive committee reported in and immediately went to work for Ed Warnke '19, chairman of Long Island's reception for President John Sloan Dickey.
Ed and his committee did a superlative job in making this affair the grandest ever held on Long Island. Over 50 loyal sons turned out and all were unanimous in voting it number one on Long Island to date.
Willard Doyle '33, master of ceremonies, kept things going at a lively pace. He introduced the officers, of the association and then to get the boys warmed up, produced a very lovely accordianist who assisted Art Keleher '27 in leading the group in Dartmouth songs. Ed Warnke called the role for the men in the Class of '52 and their fathers. Theirs was the largest turnout for any one class (eleven in all) and if they continue to show the spirit expressed that night, they should go on to become one of Dartmouth's best.
Long Island's Prexy John Shaw '27 introduced President Dickey. Mr. Dickey highlighted his talk with candid shots of campus events and problems; the difficulties faced by AI Dickerson's admissions office; and thirdly, the Great Issues Course. Those of you who couldn't be with us missed one of the finest talks heard on what's going on in Hanover.
Before the reception was thrown open to general questions, Willard Doyle introduced County Judge Harry Collins '18, who presented President Dickey with a "Tomahawk," the official emblem of the Long Island Association. Dick Holton '18 added true Dartmouth flavor by heckling the Judge during the presentation.
There were many new faces at the gathering and some old timers we hadn't seen for a long time. We were especially happy to see Bill Cashell Sr. and Charlie Cords, fathers of BillCashell '41 and Dick Cords '41. Larry Hull '38 and Dick Nehring '42 were also among the new-comers in the group. We were disappointed not to see the three Remsens, Dave Leake '40, Sid Hogerton '38, Bleeker Repson '37, Red O'Conner '41, the Griffins, Warren King '38 and Bob Paisley '19.
Congraulations to Roy Allen '37, newly ap pointed Public Relations Director for Wil liam A. Battiste Inc.
Ed Warnke has a swell program lined up for Long Island's Dartmouth night, October 8, at the Garden City Hotel. We are starting our celebration a week in advance to cheer the boys on against Holy Cross and also not to interfere with the New York Club's celebration. It will be old news when you read this, but we are sure that there will be many new fellows among those present.
As we swing into this year's activities, we want to remind you fellows that this is your Association for promoting good fellowship among Dartmouth men from Brooklyn to Montauk. Support our affairs and don't forget to send a buck to Wally Rushmore, 160 Linden Street, Mineola.
